Few careers in India’s media and advertising industry have moved as seamlessly across agencies, technology platforms and entertainment as that of Ajit Varghese.



From his early leadership years at Madison World to running major agency networks across India, Asia Pacific and global markets, Varghese’s journey has been defined by an ability to take on complex mandates, build teams and navigate industries in transition.



His career began taking shape at Madison World, where he served as COO between 1999 and 2006. He later joined Maxus as Managing Director for South Asia, taking on a turnaround mandate before moving into the role of CEO, Asia Pacific. His international journey expanded further at Wavemaker, where, as Global President, he managed business across more than 50 markets and led a workforce of over 3,000 professionals.



But Varghese’s career has never followed a predictable agency-only path. In 2020, he moved into India’s fast-growing consumer technology ecosystem as Chief Commercial Officer of ShareChat and Moj, bringing his media and commercial experience to the social media economy. He then joined The Walt Disney Company, taking on senior revenue and advertising leadership responsibilities across entertainment and international businesses, including the evolving JioStar landscape.



In 2025, the journey came full circle when Varghese returned to Madison World as Partner and CEO — more than two decades after his first stint with the group. It was not merely a return to familiar ground, but the continuation of a career that has consistently crossed boundaries between media, advertising, technology and business transformation.



An alumnus of XIM Bhubaneswar, Varghese has spent more than three decades witnessing and helping shape  some of the biggest shifts in the media business: from traditional media buying to global agency networks, from digital disruption to platform-led consumer ecosystems and converged entertainment.



On his birthday, Ajit Varghese’s journey stands out not simply for the titles he has held, but for the range of worlds he has inhabited. Agency leader, global operator, consumer-tech executive and media business strategist,  his career is ultimately a story of reinvention, scale and the willingness to keep moving with an industry that never stands still
