On 26 January 2026, the Indian media fraternity celebrated the birthday of a senior and highly experienced journalist who has marked a strong and credible presence in the world of news for more than three decades. Senior journalist Satish K. Singh is counted among those professionals who not only witnessed the transformation of TV news from close quarters but also contributed meaningfully to guiding that change.
His commitment to journalism, balanced perspective, and editorial acumen have earned him a place among the most respected professionals in the industry. Honouring the veteran, recalling his long and inspiring journalistic journey is akin to revisiting several important milestones in the history of Indian media.
Satish K. Singh began his journalism career in 1993 with an English magazine. This was a time when private media in India was gradually taking shape and new experiments in journalism were beginning. During his early years in print media, he learned the fundamentals of news reporting, research, and writing. He later joined senior journalist Nalini Singh’s well-known project Hello Zindagi, where he gained deeper insights not only into journalism but also into social and lifestyle issues. This phase significantly broadened his outlook on life and news.
Subsequently, Satish K. Singh worked for a brief period with DD News. Here, he gained experience within the national public broadcasting system and a deeper understanding of the functioning of television journalism. Working with the government broadcaster helped him develop a comprehensive grasp of nationwide issues, administrative news, and national discourse, which later became a strong foundation for his career.
In 1996, Satish K. Singh joined Zee News, marking a crucial turning point in his career. This was the era when private Hindi news channels were rapidly gaining popularity and reshaping the face of TV journalism. At Zee News, he spent nearly one and a half decades in various editorial roles, establishing a strong national identity. During this time, he emphasised not only the presentation of news but also the quality and credibility of editorial content. His tenure at Zee News is regarded as one of the most decisive and impactful phases of his career.
He later joined NDTV India as Senior Output Editor, where he played a key role in prime-time bulletins, special programs, and the presentation of major news stories. At NDTV India, he earned a reputation as an editor who prioritized balance, factual strength, and viewers’ trust. In 2007, he returned once again to Zee News in a senior editorial role, contributing significantly to shaping the channel’s direction. His second stint at Zee News, which lasted until 2012, was also widely appreciated.
After that, Satish K. Singh began a new chapter at Live India, where he rose to the position of Editor-in-Chief. In this role, he carried full editorial responsibility for the channel and worked to strengthen content by drawing on his extensive experience. Following Live India, he also spent some time with Focus TV, contributing to the development of the channel’s editorial structure.
Around 2014, he worked with News Express as a Consulting Editor, strengthening the channel’s reporting and strategic direction. In 2016, Satish K. Singh joined News24 as Consulting Editor. At News24, he not only guided the channel’s news output but also worked on content strategy while keeping in mind the challenges of the digital era. At the time, News24’s Editor-in-Chief Anuradha Prasad described his association as a major editorial strength for the channel.
Beyond television news, Satish K. Singh is also recognised as a serious analyst, commentator, and public speaker. His views on politics, national issues, international developments, and social matters are considered balanced and fact-based. Even in the age of digital and social media, he has remained consistently active, engaging with audiences and young journalists by sharing his experience and insights.
Satish K. Singh’s journalistic journey has never been limited to positions or channels alone. He has always prioritized the credibility of news, editorial independence, and the core values of journalism. For many young journalists, he has served as a mentor, offering learning opportunities through his experience. His career stands as an example that even in a changing media landscape, honest and responsible journalism retains a lasting place.
