Instagram has rolled out a new custom font in its Edits photo and video editing app, drawing direct inspiration from the typography featured in the film Dhurandhar: The Revenge, commonly known as Dhurandhar 2. The addition brings bold, cinematic lettering designed to mimic the movie’s promotional posters, and overall visual style, allowing users to apply a dramatic, film-like touch to text overlays in their Reels.
The update allows users to recreate the now-familiar Dhurandhar-style edits directly within the app, without relying on third-party tools.
How the feature works
To apply the font, creators open the Edits app, start a new Reel or load an existing draft, tap the Text tool, scroll through the available font options, and select the Dhurandhar-inspired style. From there, text can be typed, resized, positioned, and further customized with effects before publishing.
From trend to tool
The Dhurandhar 2 aesthetic has been dominating reels and short-form videos. Instagram’s move essentially formalises this trend, making it easier for users to participate.
The update also reflects Instagram’s ongoing efforts to enhance the Edits app as a dedicated tool for short-form video creation, incorporating trending entertainment elements to help Reels stand out.
The ‘Dhurandhar effect’ on content creation
The popularity of Dhurandhar 2 has spilled online and is increasingly being adapted into short-form content. Dialogues, visual styles, and even typography from films are now becoming templates for digital expression.
Instagram’s move highlights how platforms respond to trends. Instead of just hosting viral content, platforms are increasingly productising trends by turning them into features.
This does two things- It keeps users within the platform ecosystem and it accelerates trend adoption by making creation easier.
The font is currently available on both Android and iOS versions of the Edits app, though only for a limited time as it appears to be a promotional tie-in with the film’s release.
