WhatsApp has announced a fresh set of features designed to improve how users manage conversations, storage, and overall chat experience. The updates, focus on making the app more flexible, especially for users juggling multiple conversations and devices.
Changing Phones No Longer Means Starting Over
Cross-platform transfer between iPhone and Android has been one of the more frustrating gaps in WhatsApp’s feature set. It is now closed. WhatsApp’s chat transfer feature now supports moving your chat history from iOS to Android, in addition to transfers within the same platform. Your conversations, photos, and videos can now move with you across a phone switch with just a couple of taps.
Your Phone Storage Is Full?
Anyone who uses WhatsApp knows this: the app quietly accumulates gigabytes of photos, videos, and documents, and before long it is one of the biggest space-hoggers on your phone. The new storage management feature lets you find and delete large files directly within any individual chat, without having to delete the entire conversation.
Tap the chat name, go to Manage Storage, and clear what you do not need while keeping the text chat intact. There is also now an option to clear just the media from a chat rather than wiping everything.
Multiple accounts on one device
WhatsApp now supports two accounts logged in simultaneously on iOS, mirroring a feature that has been available on Android for some time. Users can switch between accounts without logging out, making it easier to separate personal and work conversations. The app also displays the profile picture in the tab bar to help users identify which account is active.
Smarter conversations with AI and stickers
The update also brings improvements aimed at making chats more expressive and efficient.
Sticker suggestions now appear when users type emojis, helping them quickly choose more expressive responses.
Meta AI photo tools allow users to edit images (removing distracting elements, swapping in a new background, or applying a style) directly within chats before sending.
AI Writing Help can suggest responses based on conversation context. This feature may be useful for formal conversations.
All features are rolling out now and will be available to all users soon.
