Netflix's marketing for Taskaree: The Smuggler's Web centred on bringing the show's fictional smuggling world directly into real-life settings, creating moments where audiences encountered elements of show’s narrative in real life spaces.

Released on Netflix on January 14, 2026, the series follows customs officer, Arjun Meena (Emraan Hashmi) tackling an international smuggling network at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, a setting that became central to how the show was promoted.

Taking the Story to the Streets and Airport Terminals

The Activation took place at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai at Terminal 2 where conveyor belt was wrapped end-to-end with Taskaree branding and mock suitcases containing visible gold bars were rolled out among regular passenger luggage. Passengers arriving at the terminal were suddenly confronted with what appeared to be illicit goods on the belt, forcing them to stop, take pictures, and post them on social media. Emraan Hashmi even made personal appearance and mingled with the onlookers. The surprise element turned routine baggage claim into an immersive, participatory experience.

Divya Rao, Film and Series Marketing at Netflix, posted on her Linkedin page, “One of the most fun parts of marketing Taskaree: The Smuggler’s Web was getting to take the show exactly where it belongs - The airport.” “No gold was smuggled. Just a few smiles,” she added.

Strategic digital out-of-home displays extended the campaign’s reach in waiting lounges and high dwell areas, providing repeated visual exposure while not hindering traveller’s activity flow. This approach was designed to meet audiences in locations where they were already spending time, thus aligning the context of the show’s airport setting.

Breaking News Segments

The promotional feature was integrated like a breaking news segment on the Hindi news channel, ABP News with sansani fame Shrivardhan Trivedi, presenting a fictional account of the seizure of Rs 1200 crore worth of gold at Mumbai Airport, led by ‘Officer Arjun Meena’, complete with dramatic graphics, and series clips. Video ended with a call to stream on Netflix, mimicking real journalism to feel timely and credible.

Similar breaking news format was followed by Republic Bharat framing segments around the show's portrayal of customs as frontline defence against smuggling syndicates. It helped embed the narrative in news-like formats, which commonly cover such news and are popular amongst viewers.

Creator Collaboration

Additionally, Netflix collaborated with creator Gaurav Khanna (recent Bigg Boss 19 winner) in an Instagram Reel where, Gaurav appeared alongside Emraan Hashmi in a playful, exaggerated video promoting the series. The caption read: "Mumbai Airport ka haal dekho! - Watch Taskaree: The Smuggler's Web, out 14 January, only on Netflix.” The light-hearted tone helped integrate the promotion into creator and fan spaces.

By embedding show elements into real environments that mirrored the story world-such as airports, baggage belts, and travel spaces-it created an authentic, resonant marketing experience. This approach did more than inform viewers about a release date: It invited them into the world of customs enforcement and smuggling, long before they clicked "Play."
