eBay India celebrates its 9th birthday with a Way Too Fab birthday bash

The e-commerce website has rolled out a nine-day extravaganza, starting March 12, wherein consumers can get great deals on popular gadget & lifestyle categories, besides lining up a host of contests

eBay India celebrates its 9th birthday with a Way Too Fab birthday bash

eBay India has launched a Way Too Fab (WTF) campaign for its ninth birthday bash. The nine-day extravaganza, from March 12-20, offers consumers great deals on popular gadget and lifestyle categories – mobiles, laptops, tablets, cameras, tvs, memory devices, home audio, air conditioners, perfumes, car electronics, fitness & sports, home & living, kitchen, watches, men’s clothing, jewellery and women’s apparel.

As part of the celebrations, eBay India will be creating a special page that will allow any user who purchases products more than Rs 500 on March 12, 13 and 14, to spin the Wheel of Magic. Every spin offers consumers an assured gift ranging from special coupons to mobile phones and tablets, to name a few. There will also be special Hot Cake Deals on nine products every day across the Gadgets and Lifestyle category, apart from ‘Cherry on the Cake’ deals across 2,000 product categories on eBay India.

To celebrate its birthday with its 2.3 million social media fans, eBay India has planned a host of party games. They have created a virtual birthday bash through a special microsite, www.waytoofab.com, to host various games through applications across all their social media platforms, viz. Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. This innovative and interactive digital campaign is being managed by Tonic Media, the social media agency for eBay India.

On the first day, March 12, 2014, consumers will need to impress eBay’s party bouncer, comedian Suresh Menon, with their jokes and wisecracks to get invited to the birthday bash. Consumers who manage to make Menon laugh will get gratified with eBay coupons.

On March 13 and 14, eBay India’s Instagram page will host a ‘selfie’ contest, where all their users will be asked to share selfies in their best party attire. Lucky winners will get gifts from eBay India.

On March 15, eBay India will play ‘musical tweets’ with their Twitter followers. A special app with a Twitter plugin will be created, asking users to tweet with the hash tag. These tweets will appear to pass through a chair placed on the screen. There will be music played in the background with tweets appearing on this chair. The tweet that appears to be on the chair once the music stops at regular intervals will be declared as the winner.

On the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth days – March 16,17, 18 & 19 – an application on eBay India’s Facebook page will allow its fans to play ‘spin the bottle’. There will be a bottle placed in the centre of the plugin with their fans’ Facebook profile pictures around it. The bottle will spin and stop along with a background music. The picture that the bottle points towards when the music stops wins this game and the fan gets gratified by eBay India.

On the ninth day of the birthday bash on March 20, eBay India will play ‘bottoms up’ with its Twitter followers. Under this game, an application will allow followers to see a filled glass which depletes with every tweet. The idea is to finish as many glasses as possible by tweeting multiple times in a stipulated time frame. At the end of every hour, the user with maximum bottoms up wins the prize.
