Taboola today released the top News and Newsmakers of 2019. The findings revealed India was filled with various issues and personalities throughout categories and genres of news. There have been many headlines from news, to entertainment, to sports. Taboola captured all this and to show what caught the Indian readers attention during the year. Taboola's Top News & News Makers 2019 Findings' based on its analysis of the open web, came out with below the findings:

General News
The general news category was led by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi with 97.3 per cent readers reading about him the most. Rahul Gandhi came in second place with 2.6 per cent readers, and at the third-place, people read about Article 370 with 0.08 per cent readers.

Entertainment
In Entertainment category, Avengers caught the attention of most of the readers with 69.9 per cent, Games of Thrones came second with 19 per cent readers, whereas Bollywood hit Gully Boy made to the top 3 with 5.5 per cent readers.

Sports
In the Sports category, cricket dominated at all levels. The first position was held by Cricket World Cup at 43.2 per cent readers, Virat Kohli came at the second position with 42.3 per cent readers, and IPL (Indian Premier League) stood at the third position with 10.2 per cent readers.

Top Topics in General News - Male & Female
The top personality for Male readership was Narender Modi with 83 per cent, whereas the Union Budget was the number one topic for women with 33.3 per cent.

Top Topics in Entertainment - Male & Female

In Entertainment, Top topic for male was film ‘Avengers’ with 79.2 per cent, while for women it was Gully Boy with 36.8 per cent.

Top Topics in Sports - Male & Female

In Sports, Top topic for male was Indian Premier League (IPL) with 85.5 per cent and for women it was Mahender Singh Dhoni with 23.1 per cent
