Team India crashed out of the ICC Cricket World Cup after suffering a heart-breaking 18-run loss from New Zealand. The nail-biting encounter on Wednesday had the entire nation hooked, and made sure that Star India-owned OTT platform Hotstar, which is the official digital streaming partner of the tournament, set a new viewership record.

As many as 25.1 million users tuned in during the 49th over of the match. Viewership grew steadily after the 43rd over when India put up a good fight after being reduced to 5-3.  The viewership increased from 18.2 million to 24.4 million between the 44th and 47th overs, finally crossing 25 million towards the last over.

With the figure of 25.1 million, the platform went past its earlier Wordl Cup peak of 15.6 million that was recorded during the India-Pakistan match on June 16.

The match also surpassed the IPL 2019 final number of 18.6 million, which was the highest ever for the platform till Wednesday.
