Entertainment industry needs to self-regulate OTT content: Piyush Goyal

The commerce and industry minister has said OTT content should be in tune with the 'cultural and traditional ethos' of the country

The entertainment industry needs to self-regulate content on OTT platforms to avoid poor portrayal of the country, commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal has said as per media reports.

The government has recently proposed an institutional self-regulatory model like that which exists for the traditional media.

Goyal has said that the content should be in tune with the “high cultural and traditional ethos and moral values of the country”.

The minister has also pointed out that investments being directed to OTT platforms will impact the survival of cinema halls.

On China, Goyal said that the government will try to “India will work with reciprocity” in case of restrictive trade practices of other countries.
