eBay India has announced the launch of their ‘IPL Battle of the Fans’ Facebook App. The application aims to engage with users with a game mechanic and people are awarded points daily for backing the winning teams. The game also encourages social sharing by giving points for inviting friends to play before every match.

To further incentivise interactions, the company is giving out prizes like the Apple iPad 2, HTC Incredible S smartphone and Sony PlayStation 3. There are also weekly and daily prizes of lower value, including IPL gear, to reinforce the cricket connection.

Deepa Thomas, Senior Manager, Pop Culture, eBay India, said, “With the competition between the IPL teams heating up, we have launched the ‘IPL Battle of the Fans’ app to keep the healthy competition going amongst consumers. We encourage all cricket buffs to log on to the eBay India’s Facebook page to ‘Predict and Win’ their favourite teams score and win exciting prizes.”

Aside from the contest, eBay is also running an IPL microsite to sell cricketing related merchandise, collectibles and even autographed balls and such, the earnings from which go to the NGO Umeed.
