Social media giant Facebook has appointed Indian-origin Senior Executive Karandeep Anand as the head of its communications tool Workplace.

The IIT-Hyderabad graduate, who holds a bachelors degree with honors in databases and data mining, was with Microsoft for a good 15 years. He later joined Facebook and has been with the social media giant for the last four years. He has also studied at the Kellogg School of Management.

“I’m excited to now be part of the journey of bringing Workplace to companies across the globe and help them unlock the potential of their biggest asset — people,” Anand posted on LinkedIn.

Anand has worked along with Facebook Vice-President Julien Codorniou, who also has been the leader of Workplace. While Anand’s role will include working along with developers and researchers, Codorniou will focus on sales and partnerships.

Workplace is a division of Facebook that works out of London and is a communications tool used by several companies as well as businesses.

Karandeep Anand will handle the Workplace product team, which includes developers, engineers, researchers and data scientists, while Codorniou will remain in charge of sales and partnerships, a Facebook spokeswoman said.

At Facebook, Anand has been the Head of product for a number of other divisions, including Marketplace, Audience Network and Ad Solutions, according to a report.

Workplace by Facebook, which has been around for two years now, caters to 30,000 organisations, according to a Facebook report.
