A day after reports suggested that the long-anticipated merger between Omnicom Group and Interpublic Group (IPG) could see DDB Network being integrated into TBWA, Omnicom has reportedly issued a clarification. The company said it is carrying out a “rigorous and considered process” to determine the best solution.
A report in Adweek quoted an Omnicom spokesperson as saying that the company is “undertaking a rigorous and considered process to ensure we have the very best solutions for the future for us and for our clients.”
The spokesperson reportedly said that Omnicom and IPG remain independent companies until the acquisition is finalized.
The reports that circulated on Wednesday claimed that once the merger deal, valued at US$13.5 billion, is finalized DDB may be merged into TBWA. The reports also mentioned that following the merger, the new entity will consolidate the creative operations around three global agencies: BBDO Worldwide, McCann and TBWA\Worldwide.
Meanwhile, e4m recently reported that the merger, initially targeted for the second half of 2025, could now extend toward year-end as final regulatory approvals from the European Union and Mexico are still pending.
While 18 out of the 20 global markets have already received approval and key jurisdictions such as the US, the UK and India have already cleared the deal, the timing of these remaining approvals will determine the exact closing schedule. Both Omnicom and IPG said in a statement on Tuesday that they continue to expect closure by December 31, 2025.
