Today, we celebrate the birthday of Harsha Razdan, the dynamic Chief Executive Officer of Dentsu South Asia, whose remarkable journey and transformative leadership continue to inspire the advertising and marketing industry across the region.
On this special day, we honour a leader who embodies the perfect blend of strategic brilliance, technological acumen, and people-centered leadership. Harsha's impact on Dentsu has been nothing short of transformative, bringing fresh perspectives and innovative approaches that have revitalized operations across South Asia. His commitment to purpose-driven leadership and unwavering focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion have set new benchmarks in the industry.
Harsha's impressive career trajectory began with a solid educational foundation at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, where he earned his Bachelor of Technology degree. This rigorous technical education equipped him with analytical thinking and problem-solving capabilities that would prove invaluable throughout his distinguished 25-year career.
His professional journey spans some of the world's most respected organizations. Starting at PepsiCo as a Management Trainee, his eight-year tenure saw him ascend to General Manager, Marketing, where he managed iconic brands like Mountain Dew, mastering brand strategy and advertising development. He then moved on to Hindustan Unilever, gaining deep insights into consumer behavior and market dynamics.
Harsha's career took a strategic turn at Accenture, where he spent 11 years developing expertise in the Consumer Goods practice across Europe and the APAC region. As Managing Director, he led transformative initiatives spanning sales transformation, retail excellence, and supply chain optimization. Before joining Dentsu, he served as Senior Partner at KPMG, overseeing Clients and Markets, Consumer Markets, Life Sciences, and Internet Business, while contributing to both Indian and global leadership teams.
Since taking charge of Dentsu South Asia in May 2023, Harsha has stabilized an organization that faced significant challenges, including leadership turnover and client losses. His approach, characterized by humility, honesty, and directness, quickly won over clients and internal teams alike. Under his leadership, Dentsu has set an ambitious goal to double India's revenue by 2028, focusing on new growth areas including entertainment, gaming, retail media, and sustainability marketing.
What truly sets Harsha apart is his genuine commitment to people-led leadership. He regularly walks the office floor, engaging with team members, asking them, "What do you want to do in life?" to foster authentic conversations beyond corporate formalities. His leadership philosophy of "humble confidence" combines conviction with openness, decisiveness with empathy, and ambition with genuine care for people's well-being.
Beyond his corporate role, Harsha actively contributes to industry bodies, including FICCI FMCG Committee, CII Ecom, TiE, and AMCHAM India, advocating for the integration of data, analytics, creativity, and technology in modern marketing.
