Aam Aadmi Party MP Raghav Chadha recently stepped into the role of a quick-commerce delivery rider, spending a day working as a delivery partner for Blinkit.

Chadha shared glimpses of the experience on social media, showing himself wearing the Blinkit delivery uniform, picking up orders and riding through local routes. In his post, he indicated that the exercise was meant to understand the everyday realities of gig workers, positioning the activity as an on-ground experience.

The episode follows a moment in December when Chadha invited a Blinkit delivery partner, known as Thapliyal Ji to lunch after a video of his daily earnings went viral. The viral video showed a delivery partner’s earning after making 28 delivers working for almost 15 hours was merely Rs 763. This incident led to discussions about income consistency, pressure, and safety for workers in the quick-commerce segment, which is largely dependent on these delivery partners.

Chadha has been active outside the official environment as well. He had accompanied gig economy workers on New Year’s Eve, who were protesting across the nation to highlight their demand for just wages, decent working conditions, and social security. He has described their demands as “just” and supported the cause by attending a rally at Old Rajinder Nagar, Delhi.

Raghav also supported the nationwide strikes and demonstrations by delivery riders a number of times, stressing the view that these workers should be treated as humans, not as disposable data points. Chadha called for platforms to recognize gig workers' contributions to the digital economy, thus forcing changes and being more considerate in terms of respect, safety, and fair compensation.

India's gig economy has grown at a rapid pace over the last couple of years, led by food delivery, ride-hailing, and quick-commerce platforms. Concurrently, debates over minimum earnings, insurance coverage, and social security for gig workers have been discussed frequently. Chadha has previously raised such issues in Parliament, calling for clearer frameworks to support workers operating outside traditional employment structures.

Chadha decided to add his experience to that conversation by choosing to work as a delivery partner for a day. So far, clips that have been released are from activities that are part of routine of the job, like pickup and short deliveries, without making specific claims about pay or policy outcomes.
