Manish Srivastava named Resident Editor of NBT Lucknow

Manish Srivastava has been appointed as the Resident Editor of the Lucknow edition of Navbharat Times, succeeding Sudhir Mishra, who resigned after nearly 14 years.
Srivastava has been with NBT since 2013 and is recognized for his investigative journalism, particularly in Uttar Pradesh's political landscape.
He previously worked with notable Hindi newspapers including Amar Ujala, Dainik Jagran, and Hindustan, and gained prominence for reporting on the NRHM scam in 2012, which involved significant corruption in healthcare funding.
His new role comes as Uttar Pradesh prepares for upcoming elections, marking a transition for the Lucknow newsroom.

Noted journalist Manish Srivastava, State Bureau Chief at Navbharat Times (NBT), has been appointed Resident Editor of the Hindi daily’s Lucknow edition. Srivastava, who has been with NBT since 2013, takes charge following Sudhir Mishra's resignation as Resident Editor on Tuesday after nearly 14 years with the Times Group.

The change of guard at the state’s leading Hindi daily comes as Uttar Pradesh, India’s most politically significant state, prepares for polls early next year.

Known for his investigative journalism and incisive reporting on Uttar Pradesh’s political and administrative affairs, Srivastava has had a long career across leading Hindi newspapers in the country. Before joining NBT, he worked with Amar Ujala, Dainik Jagran and Hindustan.

A significant milestone in his career was reporting on the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) scam in Uttar Pradesh in 2012 during his stint with Amar Ujala. Srivastava’s investigative journalism helped uncover a major corruption scandal involving the alleged siphoning of an estimated ₹10,000 crore (around $1.5 billion) from the Central government programme aimed at improving healthcare in rural India.

The scam, involving murders of several chief medical officers, triggered investigations, the arrest of several bureaucrats and other accused, and eventually a minister's resignation, making the NRHM case one of the biggest scandals to emerge from Uttar Pradesh.

Srivastava has been associated with NBT for over 13 years, during which he has held key editorial and reporting responsibilities in the Uttar Pradesh market. His elevation to Resident Editor comes as the Lucknow newsroom enters a new phase following Mishra’s departure.
