Amish Devgan exits News18 India, set to join Times Network

Veteran journalist and news anchor Amish Devgan has stepped down from News18 India after nearly a decade with Network18. He is expected to join Times Network for his next stint.

Devgan will make his final appearance on News18 India with his prime-time show ‘Aar Paar’, formally marking the end of his tenure with the channel. During his time with Network18, he took on responsibilities spanning anchoring, editorial management and news operations.

He joined Network18 in 2016, when he was appointed Executive Editor and anchor of IBN7, now News18 India, and was given responsibilities related to the channel’s Hindi news strategy. His association with the network also saw the launch and growth of ‘Aar Paar’, through which he became known for covering political, economic and current-affairs issues.

In 2019, Network18 appointed Devgan as Managing Editor for News18’s Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan operations, expanding his role beyond prime-time anchoring to include newsroom and editorial responsibilities.

From business journalism to prime-time news

Devgan began his journalism career with Hindustan Times in 2002 before moving to television with Zee Media. He joined Zee Business in 2005, where he spent around 13 years in various editorial and anchoring roles.

At Zee Business, he served as Deputy Editor, Editor – Output and Editor – Special Projects before being appointed Chief Editor in May 2015. His work included coverage of commodities and agriculture, including programmes such as ‘Mandi Live’.

He later expanded into broader news and current affairs through programmes such as ‘Big Story Big Debate’, which covered politics, the economy, financial markets and major national and international developments.

Devgan has also worked on reporting and investigative journalism, with his work covering subjects including the coal scam, the Odisha mining scam and investigations related to businessman Moin Qureshi, according to the report.

Over a journalism career spanning around 24 years, Devgan has received several industry recognitions, including the IMF Young Emerging Editors Award 2015, Srishti Award for Business Journalism and Power Brand Trendsetter Award 2016. He was also recognised at the exchange4media News Broadcasting Awards (ENBA) during his Network18 tenure.

With his departure from News18 India, Devgan's association with Network18 comes to an end. His next move to Times Network is expected to mark the beginning of a new chapter in his television career, according to sources cited in the report.
