Sushir Mishra steps down as NBT Lucknow Resident Editor

Sushir Mishra, Resident Editor of Navbharat Times (NBT) Lucknow, has resigned after nearly 14 years with the Times of India Group, with his last day expected in the first week of November.
Mishra joined NBT in 2013 during the relaunch of the Lucknow-Kanpur edition and has since edited various editions, including Lucknow, NCR, and Delhi.
He cited a desire to pursue new projects and remain professionally active as reasons for his resignation, emphasizing his passion for journalism.
Mishra plans to continue his career in journalism and will announce his next steps soon, reflecting on the evolving nature of the industry during his tenure.

Noted journalist and author Sushir Mishra, Resident Editor of Navbharat Times (NBT) Lucknow, has stepped down from his position after nearly 14 years with the Times of India Group.

Mishra is currently serving his notice period and is expected to continue with the organisation until the first week of November. His retirement was still two years away.

Mishra confirmed the news with e4m. “Yes, I have stepped down from the resident editor’s post at NBT Lucknow.”

Mishra joined NBT in 2013, as the resident Editor when the Lucknow-Kanpur edition was relaunched by Benette Coleman and Company Ltd (The Times of India group). Over the years, he went on to edit the Lucknow edition, the NCR edition, and the Delhi edition, before returning to Lucknow in 2024.

“I felt that if I resign now and make these two years productive by working on a new project, it would be better for my future,” he wrote in a long FB post. Mishra said his move was driven by a desire to step outside his comfort zone and remain professionally active rather than enter a retirement phase.

Mishra said his decision surprised the management, colleagues, friends and family, but added that he chose to follow his instincts. “Journalism is my passion and I want to continue living it,” he stated, indicating that he plans to remain in journalism and would reveal his next move shortly.

Reflecting on his NBT tenure, Mishra credited the organisation and his teams for helping him evolve as an editor and leader. He also highlighted the changing nature of journalism, with technology, AI and shifting audience behaviour reshaping the industry.

Before joining NBT, Mishra had held editorial roles at Dainik Bhaskar and worked across multiple newspaper editions.
