David Gaines has announced that he has joined WPP Media, moving on from Media by Mother. The news has been shared by Gaines in a LinkedIn post. He will join WPP Media as President, Global Head of Planning.

“After a wild ride building Media by Mother, this week I get to join WPP Media in a new role, helping to design and scale a modern approach to planning. Media by Mother was started with no more than a belief that you could build a credible media agency from scratch, based upon a value exchange of first class talent and a genuinely different point of view. We created something that could compete with even the biggest and most established of agencies,” he wrote in the post.

“The next chapter is an opportunity to apply many of those lessons at global scale, at a moment when AI, platforms, creativity, data and culture are rapidly reshaping how brands grow and communicate. The industry is entering a period of profound change and I’m excited to help shape what comes next within a business that is truly operating at the forefront of that transformation,” the post read.

Gaines was the CEO & Founder of Media by Mother from January 2021 to May 2026.

He had earlier been WPP’s Global Head of Media Strategy from September 2018 to May 2020.
