In a strategic move to consolidate its youth media leadership, Asianet News has announced that Tapan Sharma, COO of its digital news business, will now also lead the company’s Music & entertainment business including IndigoMusic.com and its FM stations in Bengaluru and Goa.
This development comes as part of Asianet’s larger push to strengthen its digital-first, youth-centric offerings across platforms and languages. With Indigo Music positioned as the company’s flagship lifestyle music and entertainment destination, the move signals a sharper focus on building a content ecosystem that converges digital content, music, pop culture, and category trends.
IndigoMusic.com will now serve as the umbrella brand for both the on-air and online experiences, merging FM’s wide reach with the dynamic potential of digital storytelling. Known for its curated playlists, engaging content formats, and strong social media presence, Indigo is already a favored brand among India’s urban youth.
Tapan Sharma is playing a pivotal role in Asianet News’ digital evolution, leading multi-language content strategies and audience growth. Now, he brings his deep-rooted experience in the group’s FM Radio and digital music & entertainment space to further energize the Indigo Music brand.
Tapan understands the intricacies of both legacy radio and emerging digital platforms. His expertise in content innovation, platform strategy, and audience engagement will be instrumental in scaling Indigo Music into a multi-format, culture-first platform.
Referring to his new role, Tapan Sharma said, “Indigo Music is the only truly international radio destination in India. We plan to expand this business into retail and experiential domains in the current financial year, while continuing to enrich the lives of international music aficionados in Bengaluru and Goa.” we are going to transform IndigoMusic.com into a lifestyle entertainment destination across platforms for the audience that loves to stay updated on international trends in pop culture.
To accelerate the growth of our Music & entertainment business, we’re diversifying content across multiple formats - live shows, podcasts, creator collaborations, and interactive segments. This strategy not only enhances listener engagement but also positions Indigo Music as a culture-first platform that connects with the pulse of young India. By expanding into new content types and platforms, we aim to drive deeper connections, boost the station’s reach and solidify our leadership in India’s evolving audio and experiential entertainment ecosystem.
Our vision is to reimagine Indigo Music as a culture-first platform that seamlessly connects with young India across on-air, digital, and social touchpoints. Whether it's music, memes, or movements, we want to be where it all begins."
