UTV Toons, animation division of UTV Software Communications, has made a foray into 3D animation by signing a co-production deal worth $1.5 million with Ricochets Productions in France.
The 3D animated TV show, MICA, will consist of 26 episodes of five minutes each. The deal was signed on Tuesday.
According to sources three international satellite broadcasters have already agreed to telecast the series. UTV Toons has a presence in 2D animation and recently entered into the production of digital animation series using Flash for a North American television network.
United Studios, the post-production division of UTV and the newly acquired Western Outdoor, has utilised 3D animation in short form programming for motion pictures, TV and ad films. UTV will leverage these in-house resources to develop its long form 3D production business. While Ricochets Productions will do the pre-production and the post-production work, UTV Toons will be responsible for all the production including layouts, animation, texturing, rendering and compositing the show.
