Public broadcaster Prasar Bharati has said that despite the fact that almost 200 private channels shared live footage of Ram Temple ‘Bhoomi Pujan’ ceremony by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 5, most did not give credit to DD for the footage.

The ceremonial rituals took place between 10.45 AM to 2PM and were viewed by 160 million people.

“When I asked my team to check as how many channels gave credit to Doordarshan, there were only a handful and the rest had cleverly masked the logo with L-Bands and advertisements,” said Shashi Shekhar Vempati, CEO, Prasar Bharati in a live conversation with Kailashnath Adhikari, MD, Governance Now during the Visionary Talk series held by the public policy platform.

“As a public broadcaster at DD, we consider it is our responsibility and share our content without expectations. So monetization only happens to that degree and not beyond that,” Vempati said.

He spoke on various revamp initiatives taken by Prasar Bharti and how DD was planning to ride on the tremendous success of epic serials - Ramayan and Mahabharat.
