News channels saw 61% jump in viewership on Union Budget Day
According to BARC India data, the news category registered 22 million viewers on Budget Day, a 33% rise in number of unique viewers compared to the same time-band in the previous four weeks
News channels across Hindi, English and Hindi+English business channels witnessed a sharp increase in viewership on Union Budget Day (February 1), specifically between 11am and 1.43pm. This is as per data shared by the Broadcast Audience Research Council.
According to BARC India, news channels registered 3 million impressions, up 61%. The news category also saw a 33% rise in the number of unique viewers and registered 22 million viewers on Budget Day as compared to the previous four weeks in the same time band.
In Week 5, for the English news genre, Republic TV registered 654(000s) impressions. Times Now and India Today Television recorded 534(000s) and 303(000s) impressions respectively.
Meanwhile, in the English Business news genre, CNBC TV18 witnessed 727(000) impressions. ET Now and CNBC TV18 Prime HD registered 266(000s) and 30(000s) impressions.
In the Hindi news genre, Aaj Tak got 117478(000s) impressions in Week 5 in the Urban and Rural markets, whereas Zee News and New18 India witnessed 97562(000s) and 95139 (000s) impressions respectively.
