The Delhi High Court has asked the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) to file an affidavit setting a timeline for considering TRAI recommendation on the DTH issues.

“Irked by the fact that inter-ministerial committee (IMC) has not taken final view with regard to the recommendation of TRAI on DTH issues, the Division Bench of Delhi High Court Chief Justice directed the MIB to file an affidavit within a week of ‘final timeline’ which the IMC will take to finalise the issue regarding DTH,” reads a HC notice.

The direction has been issued on a PIL filed by an NGO, Media Watch, which has alleged that DTH operators are not only violating the guidelines but are also violating various other provisions of Cable TV Regulation Act. Appearing for the NGO, advocate Gaurav Kumar Bansal said that MIB, for the last three years, has been assuring the court that IMC will take a final call soon, but it has not happened yet.

Accepting Bansal’s arguments, the court directed MIB to file an affidavit within one week.
