‘Radio ke Virus’ have managed to infect the popularity charts this week. RJ Anant and RJ Saurabh, hosts of the morning show ‘Hi Delhi’ on Radio Mirchi, Delhi entertain their listeners with upfront, funny and amusing content, says Ravi Srivastava, Buying Manager, Vivaki Exchange.
According to Srivastava, both RJs have a very down to earth and frank approach that clicks with the audience instantly.
The RJs are known for their full-on style and witty conversations. The duo has been a part of Mirchi for over eight years now. Their show has special segments which create a connect with listeners of all age groups. They are ‘Jeene Ke Bahane’ – tips for youngsters, ‘Hororscope’ – funny forecasts for celebrities, ‘Good, Bad, Ugly’ – three talking points for good, bad and ugly happenings of the previous day, etc.
exchange4media chats with Ravi Srivastava to find out what he likes about RJ Anant and RJ Saurabh. Excerpts:
Who is your favourite RJ?
RJ Anant and RJ Saurabh from Radio Mirchi are my favourites. They host the show ‘Hi Delhi’ every morning.
What do you like about them?
First of all, they are very spontaneous and have a really good voice. They have a really good sense of humour and up-to-date knowledge of social political issues that are going on. They speak like a common person and thus have a very good connect.
While Anant’s RJing is very honest and upfront, Saurabh is satirical, humorous and high on news and movies. The show, thus, has very good content. They make a very good pair.
What time of the day do you listen to radio the most?
I usually listen to radio in the morning from 8:30AM to 11:00AM and in the evening from 6:00PM to 8:30PM. I also tune in sometimes late at night after 10PM.
Do you think RJs these days manage to create a connect with their listeners?
Yes, I feel they have a strong connect. They understand the pulse of the listeners and the media activation gives them a sense of likes and dislikes of their listeners.
How does RJ-listener rapport benefit the radio station?
Listeners tune in to a station to listen to their favourite show and RJ. RJ is a huge enabler in building the brand of the radio station. Thus, it helps the radio station immensely.
Where do you place more importance – format of the show or popularity of the RJ?
According to me, both are equally important. If the show is not good but the RJ is expressive and interactive, the ratings will go down; similarly, if the RJ is not good but the programme is good, ratings will drop. There has to be a perfect balance. My advice would be ‘Keep it simple, be what you are and speak the truth to create’.
