Hall of fame Golden Mikes winners in conversation
Tarun Katial of RBNL, KV Sridhar of Leo Burnett, S Yesudas of Vizeum and RJs from all 4 zones share their thoughts after winning the coveted metal
To bring creative work across radio to the fore, Golden Mikes rolled out its third edition on January 9, 2013. The event aimed at honouring the creative minds behind the best work across the medium in 2012.
Big FM was honoured as the ‘Radio Broadcaster of the Year’. The network bagged two Golds, three Silvers and three Bronze awards reaching a grand total of 56 points. Commenting on the joyous occasion, Tarun Katial, CEO, Reliance Broadcast Network said, “It is very humbling to get such recognition from a prominent body within the media industry especially because it encourages the entire team to continue to engage listeners via innovative campaigns and concepts. We are thankful to our various stakeholders for their unflinching support which has helped us grow the brand.”
There have been conversations about radio still being an add-on medium; however, there are sectors which prove the notion otherwise. FMCG, corporate and IT, telecommunications and digital sectors created some of the best radio campaigns of the year.
Leo Burnett bagged the ‘Creative Agency of the Year’ title second time in a row with 18 metals and a grand total of 138 points. The agency bagged nine Golds, four Silvers and four Bronze awards. On the occasion KV Sridhar, Chief Creative Officer, Indian Sub Continent, Leo Burnett commented, “It feels very good to win the award second time in a row. It feels really good as the medium is under-utilised. Clients invest much more on radio now. The award is well deserved by the team. They have been working very hard from the last four to five years. We would also like to thank all our clients.”
Vizeum bagged the ‘Media Agency of the Year’ title at Golden Mikes 2012. “We consider our win at Golden Mikes a great achievement. Hearty congratulations to team Vizeum on that. We are focussed on finding non-traditional solutions to clients’ business/marketing issues. We are also quite fortunate to have clients who encourage us and support our thinking,” commented S Yesudas Manging Director – India Subcontinent, Vizeum.
An RJ is the voice and identity of a radio station; people listen to them, talk to them and take their advice. Every RJ has his/her unique quality and to recognise and honour each of their talents, Golden Mikes awarded ‘RJ of the Year’ in every zone.
“Getting rewarded for your work is always a good thing, especially in a field that you’re passionate about. It’s been over seven years with Red FM on the morning show and this award is a validation that one is doing the right things to keep the audience (and the jury) happy. I’m thankful,” said RJ Malishka, who won the ‘RJ of the Year’ award (West).
The title in North is jointly shared by RJ Anant and Saurubh from Radio Mirchi and RJ Sudarshan from Red FM. “Non metro RJs struggle hard for their recognition. I am lucky to bag such a big award and sharing it with other big names adds on to it,” commented RJ Sudarshan on his big moment.
“It's indeed a great honour for me as I proudly represent Radio Mirchi Kolkata. They say golden words are not meant to be repeated but in this case I don't mind repeats of Golden Mikes,” said RJ Mir, Radio Mirchi who won the ‘RJ of the Year’ from East.
‘RJ of the Year’ from South was awarded jointly to RJ Blade Shankar, Suryan FM Chennai and RJ Michelle from Radio Indigo. “I am extremely delighted to get this award from an esteemed organisation such as exchange4media and I am thankful to my management, peers and fans for making my dream come true,” said RJ Blade Shankar.
