Veteran journalist, diplomat and former Member of Parliament H K Dua passed away on Wednesday after a prolonged illness. He had been unwell for some time and was hospitalised three weeks ago.
His last rites will be performed on Thursday at the Lodhi Road crematorium.
“This is to inform you with deep sorrow that my father, Padma Bhushan Shri H. K. Dua — former Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), Editor, Media Advisor to the former Prime Minister of India, and India’s Ambassador to Denmark — passed away peacefully this afternoon. The cremation will take place at 12:00 noon at Lodhi Road Crematorium tomorrow at March 5, 2026,” shared a family member.
Born on July 1, 1937, Dua had a multifaceted career spanning journalism, diplomacy and public service. He served as media advisor to former Prime Ministers Atal Bihari Vajpayee and H. D. Deve Gowda, and represented India as Ambassador to Denmark between 2001 and 2003.
Over several decades in journalism, he led The Tribune as Editor-in-Chief and previously held senior editorial positions at The Indian Express, The Times of India, and The Hindustan Times.
In 2009, he was nominated to the Rajya Sabha, where he actively participated in discussions on media independence and public affairs. In recognition of his contribution to journalism, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2008.
