Prime Minister Narendra Modi has paid tributes to media personality Maroof Raza who passed away this week. In a post on social media site X, PM Modi has highlighted his contributions to the world of journalism.

“Shri Maroof Raza Ji made a rich contribution to the world of journalism. He enriched public discourse with his nuanced understanding of defence, national security as well as strategic affairs. Pained by his passing. Condolences to his family and friends,” the PM wrote.


Strategic affairs expert, author, and media commentator Maroof Raza passed away this week. A retired officer of the Indian Army, Raza had extensive experience in counter-insurgency operations and later emerged as a respected voice on national security and defence matters.

An alumnus and former School Captain (Batch of 1975) of Mayo College, he combined operational insight with academic depth. He was a Times of India Fellow and held visiting fellowships at leading global institutions.

Through his work as a lecturer, writer, and television commentator, Raza played a key role in shaping public understanding of strategic and security issues in India and abroad. He is survived by his family.
