Sunday Standard to hit Delhi newsstands in mid-March

Sunday Standard, the weekend edition of The New Indian Express, is set to hit newsstands in Delhi by mid-March 2011. The newspaper will be all-colour.

Speaking to exchange4media, Prabhu Chawla, Editorial Director, The New Indian Express, said, “Delhi is a growing market and its readers would like a distinctive newspaper with strong views. Sunday Standard will only reach the high and mighty who matter. Our paper will provide content with authority, credibility and class. It will provide the right views with a nationalistic outlook.”

When asked about the initial print run of the newspaper Chawla, however, did not disclose the figures, but remarked that it would depend on the market response. “But initial print run will be much more than many newspapers published from the capital. Our content will speak more authoritatively than anyone else,” said Chawla.

Initially, Sunday Standard will cover all Delhi and NCR region. It may be noted that Sunday Standard will face stiff competition in the English newspaper domain of Delhi. Sunday Guardian, the weekly newspaper of veteran journalist MJ Akbar, and the weekly Crest Edition of Times Group are expected to give the newspaper some cutthroat competition. The dailies of the National Capital will also be in a close competition with Sunday Standard.

For the record, The New Indian Express is published from five states – Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Orissa.
