Media veteran Chander M Rai is no more

Chander M Rai, Founder President and CEO of Cross Border Media is no more. The media veteran passed away at the age of seventy. He was suffering from Leukemia.

Cross Border Media specialises in varied media activities and building strategic alliances for media companies across all platforms.

Based in New York, Rai, the CEO of India Today International, represented the media conglomerate in television, publishing, music, art and radio. As publisher and editor of India Today International, his initiatives included launching the US, UK and Middle East editions to reach 105 countries. He also launched the digital edition and forged international licensing partnerships with major publishers such as the Reader’s Digest, CondeNast, Rodale and Scientific American.

Previously, Rai was also on the Board of Khaleej Times, which is in partnership with International Herald Tribune. As general manager in charge of Gulf News, Dubai, Rai initiated electronic alliances with international newspapers such as The Daily Telegraph, The London Times, The Washington Post and The Financial Times, as well as Asahi Shimbun, and the New Strait Times.

Rai was an active member of several international associations related to the newspaper and magazine publishing industry including NAA, ESOMAR, IFRA, FIPP, MPA, Distripress, IPI, IAA and AB.

Rai is survived by his wife and two daughters.

He will be deeply missed by the media fraternity.
