Akila Urankar tipped to be new President of INS

Urankar will be replacing Somesh Mishra of Rashtradoot Saptahik, who was elected President of INS for 2016-17

Akila Urankar, President Business Standard Limited is all set to don a new role. Urankar will soon take over as the new President of the Indian Newspaper Society (INS), according to highly placed sources. She is currently the Deputy President of INS.


If speculations are right, Urankar will be replacing Somesh Mishra of Rashtradoot Saptahik, who was elected President of INS for 2016-17. Sources further revealed that Jayant Mammen Mathew, Chairman KLRC, who is currently the Vice President of INS will be the new Deputy President of INS.

Urankar has spent 20 years of her career with Business Standard. She joined the publication in 1995 as General Manager of its Mumbai operations. In 1997 she was promoted to Vice President, Circulation and in 1999 took over as COO of Business Standard. She was elevated to the role of President, Business Standard in 2002.


She has also worked in companies like BPL Mobile, Hongkong Bank and Eureka Forbes primarily in Sales and Marketing roles. 

She is a post graduate in Marketing from NMIMS, Mumbai.


Founded in 1939, INS acts as the central organization of the Press of India, an independent body authenticating circulation figures of newspapers and periodicals in India. It is an organization which plays a major role in protecting and promoting the freedom of press in India.
