Two Indian journalists from India TV were injured in Nepal after being attacked by a violent mob during ongoing protests in the country. South India Editor T. Raghavan and cameraman Kiran Kumar were in Kathmandu for ground reporting when the incident occurred.
According to reports, the two journalists arrived in Kathmandu on Tuesday and headed to the presidential palace to begin live coverage. At that point, no other media personnel had reached the location. Suddenly, a group of protesters — reportedly provoked by an individual — surrounded the journalists and assaulted them. Their equipment was also taken and destroyed during the attack.
Somehow, both Raghavan and Kumar managed to escape the crowd and reach a hospital, where they received immediate medical attention.
Protests that began as demonstrations have now turned violent, spreading across Kathmandu and other parts of the country. The growing violence has raised serious concerns about the safety of journalists operating in Nepal.
