Gold prices may be sky-rocketing, but that hasn’t stopped TLC from launching a series on jewellery. The new series by the lifestyle channel celebrates the country’s eternal love for jewellery. The India-centric series, ‘Oh My Gold!’ (OMG!), will be hosted by actor and model Lisa Ray. The series will go on air from July 11, 2011.

Speaking about the show, Rahul Johri, Senior Vice-President and General Manager – South Asia, Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific, said, “India-commissioned content is central to TLC’s growth strategy and it complements its eclectic range of global and aspirational programmes. With ‘OMG!’ TLC continues to raise the bar by innovating new themes and formats to deliver high-quality entertainment experience.”

When asked if more India-centric series were on the anvil, Johri replied, “We do plan to launch other India-centric series. We are in the television business, so we have to focus on series that work for us and we will produce more.”

‘OMG!’ opens up a new programming genre and will complement its existing distinct and aspiration lifestyle programming. ‘OMG!’ captures everything about gold and other precious stones – from buying, wearing and above all enjoying jewellery. In the series, Ray will travel to five cities – Jaipur, Hyderabad, Kochi, Delhi and Chennai – and explore their culture and tradition of jewellery. “We are not telling people to go out and buy jewellery. Our main focus is to showcase the richness and how jewellery is evolving with time. It’s so much of a part of our lives that sometimes we take it for granted. I have asked many questions in the show to understand the whole process,” Ray said.

Other India-centric series showcasing Indian lifestyles that have aired on TLC include ‘Great Indian Wedding’, ‘Indian Rendezvous’, ‘A Matter Of Taste with Vir Sanghvi’, ‘Adventures Of Ladies Tailor’, Manish Arora, ‘Dream Hotels’, Sushama Reddy, Vir Sanghvi’s ‘Asian Diary’, and ‘Living With A Superstar – Shah Rukh Khan’.
