Dettol NDTV Banega Swachh India raises funds for a cleaner and healthier nation

Over Rs 281 crores was raised by the ‘Dettol NDTV Banega Swachh India’ campaign, as Campaign Ambassador Amitabh Bachchan and NDTV’s Prannoy Roy & Vikram Chandra  were joined by a number of people, ranging from rag pickers to Chief Ministers, on a marathon 12 hour Cleanathon in support of this campaign. Dettol India and NDTV launched the nationwide campaign in September 2014 to spread awareness and empower citizens with better hygiene and sanitation facilities across the country.

Lauding the initiative on social media, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, "I appreciate @ndtv and @SrBachchan for the 'Banega Swachh India' campaign, to address aspects related to hygiene and sanitation. @swachhindia. “Scale of mobilisation & long term planning make @swachhindia a distinctive & definitive effort towards Clean India. Best wishes #swachhindia," PM Modi said in another tweet.

Union Ministers Arun Jaitley, Suresh Prabhu, Choudhary Birender Singh, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Uma Bharti and Rajiv Pratap Rudy supported the cause along with Goa Governor Mridula Sinha and corporates Vineet Mittal, Vice Chairman Welspun Renewables; Dr Prathap Reddy, Chairman Apollo Hospitals Group; Sanjeev Bijli of PVR; Prasoon Joshi, Chairman, Asia Pacific & CEO, McCann Worldgroup India; Arundhati Bhattacharya, Chairperson, SBI; Anil Aggarwal, Chairman, Vedanta Group; Arup Roy Choudary, MD, NTPC; Anand Mahindra, Chairman & MD, Mahindra Group; Chanda Kochhar, MD & CEO, ICICI Bank; Subhada Rao Chief Economist & Namita Vikas, YES Bank; Entrepreneur Binesh Desai and Ronnie Screwvala. As a part of this initiative, clean up drives were organised at multiple locations in Delhi, Varanasi, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore and Chennai that saw leaders such as Meenakshi Lekhi and Babul Supriyo. Actor Jitender and RB’s Global CEO Rakesh Kapoor joined the PM’s Swachh Ambassador Sachin Tendulkar himself to clean up the environment. Also lending their support were the Ugly Indians.
