Dainik Jagran has started an initiative to bring back the glory of Hindi literature in the country. In association with Nielsen, Dainik Jagran released the first-ever list of bestselling books in Hindi. The event ‘Hindi Hai Hum’ organized at Vivanta by Taj in Delhi saw Sanjay Gupta, Editor-in-chief, Dainik Jagran; well-known author Dr. Narendra Kohli and other prominent authors present at the event.
The list has been divided into three categories: fiction, non-fiction and translation. In the fiction category, ‘Delhi Durbar’ written by Satya Vyas bagged the first place, whereas Ravish Kumar’s ‘Being on the city’ managed to grab the sixth place.
Renowned author and speaker Deep Trivedi’s book ‘Mai Mann Hun’ grabbed first place in the non-fiction category, while Aam Aadmi Party leader and poet Kumar Vishwas’ ‘Koi Deewana Kehta Hain’ and lyricist Javed Akhtar’s ‘Lava’ got the sixth and eighth place, respectively.
In the translation category, Devdutt Pattanaik’s Book ‘Devlok Devdutt Pattanaik ke Sang’ managed the first place, while Chetan Bhagat’s popular book ‘One Indian girl’ got the eighth position. Former Indian President APJ Abdul Kalam’s book ‘Meri Jeevan Yatra’ was at the ninth position.
On the momentous occasion, Sanjay Gupta, Editor-in-chief, Dainik Jagran said, “Hindi is the world’s fourth largest language. Despite being so, no effort has ever been made towards its expansion. There is a popular belief that English is dominating Hindi. It is important to honour the literature in order to honour the language. We joined hands with Nielsen to bring a transparent and credible list based on international methodology.” Now this list will be released every three months. The books whose first version was published on and after January 1, 2011 were covered this time.
