As CNN IBN’s show Citizen Journalist (CJ) completes 100 episodes, the group is planning to focus on making CJ’s digital presence more robust. Also, through this programme, channel will continue with its campaign called Citizens Against Corruption.

Speaking to exchange4media on the concept of Citizen Journalist (CJ), Anubha Bhosle, Senior Editor, CNN IBN said, “100th episodes has been a small milestone, we have realised the true potential of the concept during this small journey.”

Meanwhile, speaking on some of the milestones that CJ has achieved, Bhosle said, “Achievements have been small, but one that make us immensely proud and are truly what channels call 'impact' these days.” She further explained that if Gayatri Devi, a freedom fighter struggling for a pension gets money and health care after the story we see it as an impact. A father who lost his son to an overloaded truck has begun a campaign and got the government to take notice of errant drivers and in the process effect a policy change, we see that as an impact. What is certainly an achievement is the sense of empowerment our CJs have felt, that if they choose to raise their voice, it will not be lost in the din.

Bhosle believed that Citizen Journalist concept certainly helps is connecting with viewers directly, after all the program is a truly inclusive one and this kind of imagery will not be seen across TV channels. “The team and the channel do not see it as user generated content, we see it has user generated issues which don’t find space sometimes in mainstream media. This obviously helps forge a direct relationship with our viewers who do believe now that they can make news and they are stakeholders in any change they want to effect,” said Bhosle.

CNN IBN was running Citizens Against Corruption campaign through Citizen Journalist programme. Bhosle divulged, “We hope to carry this campaign right till the end of this year. There are a few innovations and program style that we will experiment with. Our online presence is being revamped. We become an edgier website almost a social media network, where CJs can interact with each other, help, give tips on how they solved a particular issue, also just connect on common cause. There will be a lot of synergy in the online-tv space as welll in the coming months."
