We are trying to make the world more open and connected: Umang Bedi, Facebook
Facebook hosted an interactive workshop in Delhi to showcase its family of apps using live demonstration and give users a chance to experience its new technology and products.
Nothing comes close to personal experience, especially where new technology is concerned. Keeping this fact in mind, Facebook hosted an interactive workshop in Delhi to showcase its family of apps using live demonstration to experience technology enabled connectivity in this hyper digital world.
This immersive workshop focussed on the personal and community aspects of the social network and featured products like: Facebook Live, Facebook Lite, Full Camera, 360 Photos, Groups, Events, Oculus, Instagram, WhatsApp as well as their suite of safety and security tools including Safety Check, Community Help, Safety Center, Parents Portal, Bullying Prevention Hub and Suicide Prevention tools.
The experiential workshop was also a great enabler to get a first hand feedback of the user experience and also help them understand the technology that Facebook has built to make people and communities feel more connected, more efficient, regardless of where they connect. Among the dozen plus featured products, there were some which were specifically relevant to the Indian scenario, especially when we look at data connectivity and data speed. For example, products like Facebook Lite, which makes it easier for people to access Facebook on older Android devices or slower connections, counts India as one of the top countries. Not only this, Facebook has also rolled out local camera effects designed for India. In addition to the frames and effects that come with the standard Facebook camera, it has also designed several custom effects for India — so people can create and share photos and videos that showcase the expression of ‘namaste’ as well as capture geo-specific experiences in Delhi, Mumbai, Goa, and other places. Given the fact that India has over 184 million monthly active people who use Facebook to connect with their friends and family, and to build supportive communities online and offline, these innovations will help the social network to further expand its reach.
Speaking about Facebook’s mission to make this world more connected and give people more power to interact with ease using technology, Umang Bedi, Managing Director, India and South Asia, Facebook said, “We are looking at this as a place to connect, to make the world more open and connected, and give people the power to share. This particular event is an extension of that mission as it gives you a way to interact with our entire family of apps. It also gives consumers the ability to experience the latest products and capabilities from our side that is enabling them to share. We are super excited about events like these because they let people know how the world is moving.”
Last month, Facebook rolled out its new camera feature to make it fast, fun and easy for people to share creative photos and videos with whomever they choose, for however long they choose in an attempt to create a more open and connected world community.
Even Mark Zuckerberg, Founder and CEO, Facebook, in his letter to the community, recently spoke about giving people the power to build a global community. He said, “For the past decade, Facebook has focused on connecting friends and families. With that foundation, our next focus will be on developing the social infrastructure for the community – for supporting us, for keeping us safe, for informing us, for civic engagement, and for inclusion of all that will bring us together as a global community so we can have the most positive impact in the world.”
While highlighting the need to build a new social infrastructure, Zuckerberg further stated, “There are many of us who stand for bringing people together and connecting the world. I hope we have the focus to take the long view and build the new social infrastructure to create the world we want for generations to come.”For more updates, be socially connected with us on
