Reliance Jio to launch a super app
Jio is now serving over 300mn subscribers in India; the super app will facilitate e-commerce, online bookings and payments all at one place
Reliance Jio is set to launch a super app, similar to WeChat, in India as it seeks to merge online-to-offline retail in the country, according to media reports. The super app will provide over 100 services on one platform.
Jio is now serving over 300 million subscribers in India as data and voice traffic has seen an unparalleled growth. Prabhu Ram, Head, Industry Intelligence Group (IIG), CMR said, "The ubiquitousness of Jio devices puts Reliance in a powerful position. It can connect its vast ecosystem of its users with a multi-layered fabric, offering a rich array of services, connecting online-to-offline, through a one-stop, super app. India is a mobile-first nation and such a self-contained network that offers convenience will find favour with demanding consumers.”
Reliance Jio's super app will facilitate ecommerce, online bookings and payments -- all at one place. According to Mukesh Ambani, the new commerce platform will aim to transform the lives of around three crore merchants across the country, enabling them to do all that large enterprises and e-commerce giants are able to do with the help of technology.
Reliance Industries has already removed its fashion and lifestyle products from online marketplaces like Amazon and Flipkart, and plans to generate half of its revenue from the consumer businesses in the next decade.
At present, about 80 per cent of the group’s sales come from its traditional oil and gas business. For more updates, be socially connected with us on
