Facebook has launched a tool that will send health check-up reminders to its users, media reports said.

The tool, Preventive Health, will help Facebook users to locate affordable healthcare facilities, set reminders for tests and mark once these have been completed. The tool was first launched in the US.

In a recent blog post, Freddy Abnousi, Facebook Head of Healthcare Research, has said: “Our initial focus is on the top two leading causes of death in the US: heart disease and cancer, (according to CDC) as well as the flu, a seasonal illness that affects millions each year."

The tool will send out recommendations basis a user’s age and sex.

The social networking giant has said that it will now be showing ads based on the information that users share in the tool.

Facebook had earlier launched in some countries like India a feature that enabled a user to sign up as a blood donor and receive notifications from nearby blood banks.
