BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi gave his first interview to an English news channel, when he spoke to Arnab Goswami, Editor-in-Chief, Times Now. The episode of ‘Frankly Speaking’ was aired on May 8, 2014 at 9 pm.
Apart from viewer interest on television, Times Now has claimed that the hashtag #ModiSpeaksToArnab was the No 1. Twitter trend nationally and globally. The interview recorded over 17 crore potential Twitter impressions.
In the interview, Modi spoke about issues ranging from his campaign to the recent controversy over his ‘caste’ comments and also Priyanka Gandhi’s ‘Neech Rajniti’ jibe.
Arnab Mitra, Managing Director, LIQVD Asia remarked, “With three times that of the volume for the #RaGa interview on Times Now on the tweet in-flow volume, Mr Modi seems to have had a fantastic run last evening with Arnab. Tracking the social buzz, one thing comes out very clearly that he made quite a few heads turn towards him with his grip over many very intrinsic and sensitive topics about India. Overall, the buzz was positive and that’s pretty cool considering one of the biggest negative stories looming around his name and in all corners of the Indian social media space. It was a pleasing scene on digital to have seen a fearless and well prepared statesman, therefore, the conversation health.”
Commenting on the interview, Pallav Moitra, Director, PM Consulting said, “I think Arnab looked subdued and intimidated.... he was in his element – he had done research well and asked very relevant questions. But where was the arrogance and aggression that he is known for? His meeting a potential and well orated leader got him to cow down? Arnab got Modi on the wrong foot several times (for example, the Bangladeshi immigrant issue), but he didn’t do a song and dance about it for a change. What made him change his way? Was he under pressure?”For more updates, be socially connected with us on
