Facebook has announced the launch of a new version of its Messenger service- Messenger 4.
According to Stan Chudnovsky, Vice President of Messenger, the new version aims to be a more user friendly and simplified one, stating in a Facebook Newsroom post that, “In a recent Messenger study, 7 out of 10 (71%) people told us simplicity is the top priority for them in a messaging app.”
He continued, “We believe Messenger 4 delivers the closeness and authenticity that you’ve been asking for — through simplicity of design and powerful features that put the focus back on messaging and connecting.”
In keeping with this simplified version, the service will also feature only 3 tabs, instead of 9. In the Chats tab, which is placed at the front and centre, users can find both one-on-one and group conversations. In the People tab, users can find friends, view Stories, and see friends who are active, while in the Discover tab, users can find and connect with businesses, play Instant Games, keep updated with the latest news and much more. Users can also customise their chat bubbles, to reflect their mood and conversations with the new colour gradient feature.
Although the new Messenger will host many new features, Chudnovsky emphasised that the service will keep other familiar features, saying, “While Messenger 4 is all about simpler and easier-to-use messaging, we’re still keeping all of the features that help you connect with the people you care about. Whether you want to poll your friends on which movie to see, split the bill for last night’s dinner, share your live location to find friends at a music festival, challenge them to your favorite games, or catch up in a group video chat, we aren’t changing anything about what you’ve always loved about Messenger.”
The new Messenger 4 is expected to be rolled-out globally over the next coming weeks. For more updates, be socially connected with us on
