Umang Bedi is a health buff, voracious reader, golf player all rolled into one

Chillout: Long work hours do not deter Umang Bedi from living it up both on weekdays as well as weekends

Apeksha Mishra 06-October-2018

From the Managing Director at Intuit, India & Emerging markets at the age of 27, to the Managing Director, South Asia at Adobe, to CEO & MD, India & South Asia, Facebook to his entrepreneurial journey of leading Dailyhunt, Umang Bedi's hectic schedules have been unable to deter his resolute march towards a healthy lifestyle. While for many, crash diets are the quick-fix solutions when it’s about losing weight, Bedi believes that shedding extra pounds is primarily achieved through good sleep, a proper diet, regular exercise and strength training. In addition to the program LeanScience, a scientific approach to improve one’s health, Bedi's personal trainer turned his lean mission into an analytical science to measure and record all aspects of his health, helping him reduce from 140 kgs to 77 kgs today. Apart from taking his love for fitness to a whole new level, Bedi loves spending time playing golf with friends. His idea of leisure also includes cooking for family and unwinding with a good read.

To know more about his idea of a perfect weekend, despite the long hours at work, read on:

I am addicted to diet Coke! It is the one thing my fridge is always stocked with!

I love a Staycation/adventure...

I love a bit of adventure and a lot of me-time. The place is not as important as the time spent with family.

I confess, I am a...

Health buff. From counting calories to lifting weights to HIIT, I love working out!

I spend me-time on...

Lying on my couch, reading! I am a voracious reader and enjoy fiction as well as non fiction.

The last show I binge watched...

Game of Thrones. I love the ‘world building’. I think GRR Martin is a genius in the way he is able to create such wonderful characters you root for one moment and hate the next.  I think the show has managed to capture the soul of the books quite well.

I can make a mean...

Omelette. Friends and family swear by it!

A skill/hobby I want to learn this year...

Misbaah Mansuri 15-September-2018

Being the CEO of a big brand is no mean feat. A barrage of work, reams of calls, tons of emails and a plethora of tasks to complete. And so, weekends come as a respite from the gruelling work week, giving the much-needed dose of rest and recreation. For Rahul Vira, CEO, Skechers South Asia Pvt. Ltd, weekends are about sampling different cuisines, catch-up time with friends and more.  Read on...

On a typical weekend you will find me...

My idea of relaxing is...
I’m a foodie. I love trying different cuisines. There is a new Brazilian restaurant in Mumbai. I’m planning to check out the vegetarian options it has in store for me.

One vice I cannot do without...
I don’t know if it’s a vice, but getting up early and going for running, walking or gyming.

I love staycation/adventure...
There was a time when I loved adventures, but now with kids and all, I opt for staycations. But given a chance to add in a little bit of adventure, I’ll definitely do that.

I confess, I am a...
Passionate person. I give my everything to any task that I take up.

I spend me-time on...
Whatever relaxes me; be it going to the garden with kids or catching up on a good movie.

The last show I binge watched...
Rocky Series

I can cook a mean... to save my life

Weekends are about reading, family time & meeting friends: CEO, Sakal Media Group

Pradeep Dwivedi enjoys staycations where he loves eating at the local food joints, talking to residents and discovering sights that are off the regular tourist trail

Misbaah Mansuri 01-September-2018

From reading newspapers to his vast and ever growing collection of books without interruption, Pradeep Dwivedi, Chief Executive Officer, Sakal Media Group prefers weekends at home with his family. He is a self-proclaimed foodie across genres both domestic and exotic, and is especially partial to desserts. He wants to learn the subtle art of great cooking even if it is for one or two signature dishes. Read on to find out more about Dwivedi and his weekend life:

On a typical weekend you will find me...
Getting up early to make that special cup of tea for my wife. Reading over a dozen newspapers for content and not just scanning them for advertisements carried and missed. Catching up on sleep or friends and typically planning the week ahead. Occasional outings in the city with family or to my mum’s house at Chandigarh is also interspersed in this.

My idea of relaxing is...
Reading my vast and ever growing collection of books without interruption, though I must admit that it is not always easy to do so.

One vice I cannot do without...
Following US politics on TV/ Web/Apps and pretty much everywhere else

I love a Staycation/adventure...
I truly enjoy staycations where you allow the location to slowly soak in and be one with. I enjoy eating the local food at local joints, and talking to residents and discovering sights that are off the regular tourist trail. As a family, we typically do not like very rushed vacations in which you would pack too much, leaving little time to build memories for a lifetime.

I confess, I am a...
Foodie across genres both domestic and exotic. I plead guilty to being especially partial to desserts.

I spend me-time on...
Social networks, especially Twitter, following a lot of professional colleagues and personal friends. Engaging with the wide diversity of thought and opinions of people especially over a nice cup of coffee is more addictive stimulant, than any other alternate.

The last show I binge watched...
Here, I would like to join the crowd and shout out Sacred Games on NetFlix! While both actors Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Saif Ali Khan acted superbly and it had great direction, my very dear friend, Kubbra Sait literally took the cake with her outstanding and pivotal performance. It was simply awesome!

I can make a mean ... to save my life...
Maggi Masala, I confess. For a foodie, I have been very recalcitrant in actually donning the apron. I guess that it is something I should take time out for, in the coming days.

A skill/hobby I want to learn this year...
The subtle art of great cooking, even if it is for one or two signature dishes. My superbly talented wife, Deepti, has spoilt me thoroughly with her culinary skills and perhaps it is time I return the favour, albeit in a limited way.

My next vacation/adventure will be...
As a family, we’ve been planning a long US vacation spanning both coasts, and meeting friends, family, and adventures undiscovered for some time now. This has so far not fructified with school and college calendar constraints of our two daughters gaining priority. Hopefully, we shall plan it in the coming year.

In immediate future, I have an IAA Global Conference coming up in Bucharest, Romania, a city/country I have never visited before, so it should be very interesting.

Chillout: Foodie, fitness buff, entrepreneur...Vidooly's Subrat Kar is a learner for life!

Weekends with Subrat Kar, CEO & Co-Founder, Vidooly, seem like a lesson in work-life balance, mastering skills and indulging in leisure all at once

Apeksha Mishra 25-August-2018

Long gone are the days of gender stereotypes where the kitchen was the sole 'responsibility'of the women of the house. Today, men take pride in their cooking skills and validating this very sentiment is Subrat Kar, Co-founder & CEO, Vidooly. From his engineering days where Kar was the happy owner of a small restaurant to being a professional now, his passion for cooking has endured the test of time. Not only this, but Kar also focuses on leading a healthy and fit lifestyle, be it cycling to running 5 km every day, or even playing badminton like a pro, his routine is fixed in the evening even post office hours. 7-8 hours of sleep is a must for him in order to have a productive day at work.
Proud of his humble beginnings to raising his own firm in Noida, Kar might have come a long way but he is very much true to his roots back in Odisha. Excerpts:

One a typical weekend you will find me...
Throughout the week I like to work hard and then play harder. On weekends, I like to wake up early and invest most of my time in several activities like cycling, running and playing badminton.
Then, I do take some work home as I catch up with candidates who are interested in joining Vidooly.
Having said that, the rest of the weekend, I take time out from my responsibilities to watch a few movies and most importantly try new recipes that I follow on YouTube. Sometimes I go out on short weekend trips or hang out with friends over a few drinks and explore our capital city’s most popular delicacies.

My idea of relaxing is...
Sound sleep of at least 8 hours every day and waking up early, which helps me focus my mind into more productive things. I feel that a well slept mind and body is the key to being relaxed throughout the day.
One vice I can't do without...
I am a big time foodie and I look forward to a grand layout of my favourite dishes at dinner. Odiya cuisine is my favourite and I can have it anytime.
I love a Staycation/adventure...
I am more of a sun ‘n’ sand person and I love chilling out by the beach. I am not good with long haul flights, so I prefer to travel within the country or anywhere near the coastal area. This year, I have prepared a travel itinerary especially to cover most of Odisha and South India.
I confess I...
am glad that I could hone my cooking skills in due course of time. Maybe, someday I hope to beat Sanjeev Kapoor at cooking :-)
I spend me-time on...
Staying healthy. I believe we all need to keep ourselves fit and healthy in order to work better. Also, I spend a lot of my time in guiding budding entrepreneurs, educating myself with new technologies or investing in any topic that I find interesting. These days, I am learning Blockchain.
The last show I binge watched...I recently binge watched "Memories". It's an original show on Viu by Vikram Bhatt. I really enjoyed it.
I can make a mean... I can cook anything for my survival except Chapaati :-)
A skill/hobby I want to learn this year...To become an expert in swimming.
My next vacation/adventure will be...Planning to visit Gopalpur sea beach, which is located at Ganjam district in the southern part of Odisha sometime this year. Also enjoy the boat ride at Chilika lake in Odisha.

Chillout: #ARM Worldwide CEO loves long walks, vacations and Bob Dylan

Good music, introspection and spending time with his little girl are Manas Gulati's favourite ways of unwinding

Misbaah Mansuri 11-August-2018

From crossing a wooden bridge in Bhutan to having a beach-blast at Greece, Manas Gulati, Co-Founder & CEO, #ARM Worldwide, is quite a travel junkie. Immersing himself in good music, long walks and spending time with his little bundle-of-joy remain his favourite ways of unwinding. Gulati shares his idea of a weekend escape, how he updates his skills, his upcoming vacation plans and more...

On a typical weekend you will find me...
Previously, my weekends were all about my "me time" with my wife. I am big sports enthusiast and weekends were all about playing cricket or soccer. However, now that I'm a daddy to the sweetest two-year-old daughter, I try and spend my larger time playing with her over weekends.

My idea of relaxing is...
There are a lot of things I do to relax. I love long walks after dinner to reflect on my day and plan for the next. For relaxation on-the-go, music is what I head to. I have playlists of Bob Dylan, Simon & Garfunkel and many other of my favourite artistes which I dive into once or twice a day to find serenity.

One vice I cannot do without...
Want to cut down a few hours of watching TV.

I love a Staycation/adventure...
When you work on what you love, everyday is a staycation! (Laughs) I'm more of an adventure type, all credit to my wife Shreya for that. It has been like clockwork where every year we plan a long trip together. Last we were crossing a wooden bridge in Bhutan and before that we were chilling in the evening, enjoying beach winds of Greece.

I confess, I am a...
This one's tricky! I can confess that despite being a time management junkie, I also procrastinate. Ever since I was a student I have been conscious about this. Still, there are lazy days and we all love them, right?!

I spend me-time on...
Sports and sweating it out at my club's cricket matches or, over squash with my company's co-founder and great friend Abhishek. Other times when I'm not sweating it out, I love catching re-runs of my favourite TV shows, specifically House of Cards and FRIENDS.

The last show I binge watched...
MindHunter by Joe Penhall

I can make a mean...
This would be so really easy and short - Maggi! If I wouldn't have to be so really mean to my meal, I'll cut and fry few veggies to go with it!

A skill/hobby I want to learn this year...
This year, my focus is to keep up with the data analytics trends in the industry. It requires me to go back to my math theories and statistics books from college sometimes. Coming to hobbies, I'd love spending my time reading books.

My next vacation/adventure will be ...
As a matter of fact, this is currently under discussion between Shreya and me. Most probably, we are planning to visit Scotland and London.
