DDB Mudra, TBWA\ & BBH get India 8 Design shortlists

DDB Mudra leads the category with six entries, while TBWA\India and BBH have one shortlist each

DDB Mudra, TBWA\ & BBH get India 8 Design shortlists

The 59th Cannes International Festival of Creativity announced the shortlists in the Design Lions category. Eight entries from India have made it to the shortlists this year.

DDB Mudra leads the category with six shortlists. Its campaigns for Volkswagen and Ministry of Tourism have dominated the Design Lions category.

The entries from the agency that have made it to the shortlist include ‘Iconic’ for Volkswagen under the Posters subcategory; ‘Moustache Gym, Musical Jungle’ for Volkswagen under Illustration subcategory; ‘Stay Alert – New York Blackout’ for Geebees Beverages under the Illustration subcategory and ‘The Hinglish Project’ for Ministry of Tourism – Government of India under Design Typography and Consumer Services subcategories.

TBWA India has one shortlist for its entry ‘Elephant Combs Logo Design’ for MKV Household Products.

BBH India also has one shortlist in this category for its entry ‘Chaplin Chapters’ for Movies Now.

India had 12 shortlists in this category in 2011 with DDB Mudra leading the charts last year too with six shortlists. Other agencies that made it to the shortlist last year included TapRoot India, TBWA\India, Ogilvy & Mather India, Sorento Healhcare, Out of Box and Happy Creative Services. India won five metals in all in Design Lions last year with Out of the Box bagging a Gold, DDB Mudra bringing home two Silvers and a Bronze and TBWA\India scoring a Silver Lion.

The number of entries submitted by Indian agencies has decreased with 134 entries submitted this year as compared to 139 last year.

Bruce Duckworth, Creative Director, Turner Duckworth is the Jury President for Design Lions while Abhijit Bansod, Principal Designer and Creative Head, Studio ABD is on the Jury from India.

Launched in 2008, Design Lions celebrates the creative and use of design as a lever to influence consumers and its use as an aid to the communication of brand and product messages. Based on four aspects, entries will be awarded for their creativity, originality, execution and the level of consumer engagement.

About 2182 entries from 62 countries – an increase of 23 per cent – compared to 2011, have been submitted in this category.

The Design Lions trophies will be presented during the Press, Design, Radio and Cyber Lions awards ceremony, which will take place on Wednesday evening June 20 at the Grand Auditorium, Palais des Festivals.
