Delivering the keynote address at the exchange4media Conclave 2010 in Mumbai on June 11, Irwin Gotlieb, Global CEO, GroupM, highlighted the huge opportunities for marketing and advertising industries through digital distribution of media. According to him, “All we need to do is embrace change and have a bit of vision. The fact is that vision requires acute observation and deep understanding.”
Irwin Gotlieb, Global CEO, GroupM, is the keynote speaker at the Mumbai leg of exchange4media Conclave 2010 on June 11. He will be speaking on the impact of digital distribution of all media, moving towards a day when the distinction between analog and digital media won’t be relevant. Gotlieb’s address will be followed by a special Q&A session moderated by Sunil Lulla, MD and CEO of Times Global Broadcasting.
Following a multi-agency pitch, AMO Communications (a Percept Hakuhodo company) has been assigned the creative duties of Mobell Mobile’s handset business (a brand partnered with Salora International Ltd in India). The multi-agency pitch process began two months ago and many leading agencies had vied for the business. The account will be handled out of AMO’s Delhi office.
Carat Media has won the media duties for Scandic Food India, which markets processed food products under the brand name Sil. Scandic Food India is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Denmark-based Good Food Group. The account size is estimated to be in the region of Rs 8-10 crore.
Weekly magazine Open has appointed Innocean to handle its creative duties. No pitch preceded this win, and the decision on the agency was closed this week. Meanwhile, along with the marketing team at Open Media, Innocean has conceptualised a brand campaign for the magazine.
‘Truthfulness in Marketing’ came under the scanner at the ‘Marketing Responsibly: A seminar to Celebrate 25 years of The Advertising Standards Council of India’. Speaking at the session were Dorab Sopariwala and Sumeet Vohra, while session moderator was Sanjay Pugalia.
To celebrate the completion of 25 years, ASCI had organized a seminar called ‘Marketing Responsibly’. One session in that seminar focused on the women’s side and the panelists discussed topics such as portrayal of women in the media and how advertising affects women.
After the addition of Karan Rawat, Grey Mumbai has brought on board Aarati Kakkad as Creative Director – Copy. Kakkad will work with ECD – Copy, Rohit Malkani. Kakkad began her career at Concept Communications as a trainee, writing copy for brands like Onida. She moved on to Enterprise Nexus (Bates India) and worked on The Times of India, Femina, NECC and ICICI credit cards accounts before joining O&M, where she spent five years working on campaigns for Vodafone, Emirates, Kotak Mahindra Insurance and DHL. After a short stint at Leo Burnett working on brands like Whisper and McDonalds, Kakkad has joined Grey Mumbai. She has also won significant recognition for her work on Vodafone, including a Gold at the Effies for the Vodafone Alerts Campaign; a Silver Abby for Integrated Campaign for Hutch Small, Medium & Large, among other awards.
On completing 25 years, the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) played host to a seminar on ‘Marketing Responsibly’ where one of the key discussions were that of Marketing Responsibly to Children. The panel for this topic of discussion included Geeta Dharmarajan, Bejon Misra and Ricardo Fort of Coke with Arvind Sharma of Leo Burnett playing the moderator for this session.
‘Marketing Responsibly: A seminar to Celebrate 25 years of The Advertising Standards Council of India’ turned the spotlight on the rarely discussed topic of responsible marketing in the education sector. This panel comprising Maheshwar Peri, Dr Ganesh Natarajan and Prof Dhananjay Keskar spoke at length about education issues that make or break the life of a child.
Another appointment in Rediffusion Y&R is that of Gautam Talwar as Executive Vice President of New Business Development and Projects. Talwar will be based in Mumbai and will report to Mahesh Chauhan, Group CEO. Prior to this, he was with Kaleidoscope Entertainment Pvt Ltd as Creative and Business Head. He began his career with Grey and serviced businesses like Johnson & Johnson, Diageo, Elf, Akai, and Cadbury Schweppes, among others. He then moved to Ammirati Puris Lintas, where he serviced the Unilever hair franchise before becoming the strategic planner on Fair & Lovely and PSI (Population Services International) for whom he developed the Balbir Pasha campaign. He then moved to handle the Unilever business for Lowe for the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region.
Adi Godrej, Chairman of The Godrej Group, doled out some words of wisdom as he presented some measures for survival of the regulation and advertising industry. Preceding Godrej’s address was the ASCI Consumer Complaints Council, coordinated by Paritosh Joshi at the ‘Marketing Responsibly: A seminar to Celebrate 25 years of The Advertising Standards Council of India’.

Sahoo joins Rediffusion Y&R from TBWA\India, Mumbai, where he worked on accounts like Nivea, Set Max, Bajaj Allianz, Platinum Jewellery and Network18. He has over 11 years of experience ranging across fields like Marketing, Corporate Communications and Client Servicing. In advertising alone, his expertise ranges across categories such as FMCG, banking, insurance, jewellery, telecom, durables, lubricants, entertainment, luggage, apparel, TV channels and pharma.

Digital is the fastest and most efficient way to activate conversation. If you want to be present in every minute in the lives of the consumers, then digital is the way to do that. Digital is so overwhelmingly present right now that it is difficult for somebody to reject that. Having said this, television, too, it is going to have a great year in 2010 and 2011. I do see the trend continuing and I see that the embracement is far more widespread now than it was a year ago.
