Only two out of the top five Bengali dailies have witnessed marginal growth, according to the Indian Readership Survey (IRS) 2009 R2 data for Average Issue Readership (AIR). The story is no different for magazines either, with four of the five magazines having de-grown as compared to the previous round.
Amid fall in average issue readership (AIR) of most language publications, Malayalam publications offer a ray of hope, with both newspapers and magazines witnessing robust growth. As per the Indian Readership Survey (IRS) 2009 R1 data, four of the top five Malayalam dailies have seen a rise in AIR, with Malayala Manorama placed at No 1. Four of the top five Malayalam magazines, too, have witnessed growth.
As in the case of most other language publications, Marathi publications, too, have a mixed bag of highs and lows as per the Indian Readership Survey (IRS) 2009 R2 data. Just four of the Top 10 Marathi dailies have shown growth, while in magazines, three out of the four top Marathi magazines have registered growths.
Magazines have been taking a higher hit in readership than newspapers, as seen in the last few rounds of the Indian Readership Survey (IRS). As per the IRS 2009 R1 data, the story is no different for Hindi magazines. Eight of the Top 10 Hindi magazines have seen a drop in average issue readership (AIR). On the other hand, just one of the Top 10 Hindi dailies has recorded a fall in AIR.
The story is not a very happy one for Gujarati publications, with not a single publication in the Top 10 list – both dailies and magazines – seeing growth in average issue readership (AIR), as per the Indian Readership Survey (IRS) 2009 R2 data released on November 23.
Vizeum India, part of the Aegis Media Group, has picked its fourth new business in five weeks. S Yesudas, Managing Director, Indian Sub-continent, Vizeum, informed that the agency had bagged the media duties for Essar Corporate in the wake of a multi-agency pitch.
MPG India has retained the media business of Reckitt Benckiser, the owner of brands such as Vanish, Veet, Clearasil and Dettol. MPG will be doing media planning and buying for Reckitt Benckiser. The account size is estimated at Rs 200 crore. MPG has been handling the business in India for the last four years since 2004.
Following a multi-agency pitch, Maxus India has been appointed the media AOR, while BBDO India has bagged the creative mandate for Akzonobel, formerly known as ICI Paints. The pitch process also saw the participation of incumbent agency Mudra and Mediacom.
