ISA Conference'19: Top leaders to decode what ‘digital connectedness’ means for businesses

The 2nd edition of the Global CEO Conference will be held on March 18, 2019, in Mumbai with the theme ‘The Connectedness Paradox’

Businesses across the world at any given time grapple with several challenges, most common to all of them. And so it's important for global leaders to come together, identify common concerns and obstacles, and collectively figure out solutions to tackle them. With this focus, the Indian Society of Advertisers (ISA) and the exchange4media group have once again come together to host the 2nd edition of Global CEO Conference.

The event will be held on March 18, 2019 in Mumbai with the theme ‘The Connectedness Paradox’. The conference is a full-day event spread across various speaker sessions, panel discussions, and audience interaction. It is expected to draw approximately 200 professionals, including CEOs and CMOs from various corporates.

Given the boom in data consumption, the theme of the conference ‘The Connectedness Paradox’ looks into a very relevant issue.

Inter-connectedness in the world is increasing at an incredible pace. Nearly 2.5 quintillion bytes of data is being produced daily as compared to 100 gigabytes in 1992. Facebook, launched less than 15 years ago, now has 1.4 billion people signed up on its platform. The average LinkedIn user now has 400 ‘connections’ compared to 20-25 connections before the boom of the Internet. Internet of Things (IoT) is enabling our devices to communicate with one another, offering endless possibilities both at home and at the workplace. Virtual assistants such as Alexa and Google Home are making lives easier with multiple use cases- from home automation to online-shopping.

However, in spite of this, meaningful “connectedness” in the world is decreasing. An adult Facebook user has an average of 200 friends on Facebook, but he or she would turn to only 4 of them for help. With increased visibility on different career paths, employee loyalty and relationships that lasted decades, now hardly last a few years. Excessive outbound marketing has agitated consumers, lowering brand image and trust. Overnight internet successes and virality have changed investor focus from long-term sustainable growth to short-term inorganic bursts. Government agencies and private companies are collecting and tracking consumers, raising serious data security and privacy concerns. Consumer and citizen trust in institutions, both private and public is at a record low.

Within this context, it is useful to examine what connectedness means to business and its implications in an increasingly inter-connected but paradoxically disconnected world.

Some interesting topics that will be covered during the day are: ‘The Twin Challenge - Growth & Responsibility in an Interconnected World’, ‘Rethink & Rework - Competitive strategies for a new interconnected paradigm’ and ‘Interconnected and Interactive - OTT & emerging media for a new generation of customers’. The first edition of the Global CEO Conference held in October 2013 on ‘Navigating a VUCA world’ had then CEO of Unilever Global Paul Polman delivering the keynote address.
