IMPACT Annv Spl: Sam Balsara on 7 Power Women
Sam Balsara, Chairman, Madison World, lists the seven Power Women of India’s advertising and media industry, who have dedicated their lives to their profession…
Women - once they make business or profession their focus - are great at it. They can be objective, focused, and are excellent at multi-tasking. These characteristics are, obviously, necessary in any power professional. Those on my list of power women have dedicated their lives to their profession – and now have something to show for themselves in terms of performance, achievement, value system, objectivity and more. As for the other contenders not in my list this year, the time is yet to come for some, and for a few others, I must confess, I am not fully aware of their achievements. Here are the power women, in alphabetical order.
She has done a great job of evangelising the radio industry. She is also promoting media agencies extremely well and has established the Emvies on the all-India calendar of events. To top it all, she also does a good job of managing Radio City.
Colours is now in its fifth year, and continues to maintain a formidable presence in the GEC space. The channel is delivering significant GRPs week after week – giving other contenders a run for their money. Ashvini, surely, has a finger on the pulse of audiences, and is serving excellent content.
She has done a spectacular job of establishing Mediacom as a true blue media agency in a short time span of three years. Being the CEO of a joint venture media agency brings with it its own set of complications. She is now in Singapore, leading a group of countries.
Lynn de Souza
She is the head of a large media agency and is doing an incredibly good job of leading it. One of the pioneer media professionals, she is a master in the field.
From being an in-sales person at Star, she has become the boss of Turner, which today has multiple channels. Running a global television company at best of times is a complex job. I think she is managing all the complexities rather well.
Punitha manages large and complex businesses. Madison has no international pedigree to get globally-aligned businesses. It is a formidable task to keep our large, tough and demanding clients happy and keep coming back for more.
Zarina has done an outstanding job, more recently, of her youth channel, Bindass. She has brought a great innovative concept to life. She did it on the back of successfully building a kids’ channel, Hungama. She continues to be enthusiastic, spirited and has a never-say-die attitude.
