I remember Piyush sharing an incident with me that was deeply etched in his heart and memory when we met in Taipei.
In 1985 he was doing a consumer visit in Calcutta for Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL). The Head Office in Mumbai received the sad news that Piyush’s father had passed away in Jaipur. The Unilever Mumbai office instructed the Branch Manager in Calcutta to make necessary flight & logistics arrangement for him to reach Jaipur. He told me that at the Calcutta airport he was given a set of white kurta pyjamas for the funeral rites and an envelope with some cash for out-of-pocket expenses by the client.
This small gesture endeared him forever to Unilever, and he was deeply grateful.
