Women have played a huge role in shaping the communications industry, even if their stories haven't always been at front. The industry has several remarkable women whose talent shape our world, often blending empathy with innovation in ways that make communication more real, more inclusive, and more powerful for everyone.

So, to celebrate the spirit of the women leaders who are breaking barriers in the PR and Corp Comm industry, exchange4media launched the 5th edition of e4m Women Achievers' Awards 2024. The awards honoured the remarkable contributions of numerous incredible women leaders, achievers, and trendsetters who have shattered glass ceilings, overcome challenges, and paved the way for a more inclusive and diverse future in the PR and Comms Industry.

In this series, we honour and celebrate the achievements of Ayushi Arora Gulyani, Founder & CEO, Media Corridors. She is the proud winner of the ‘Public Relations professional of the year’ award at the 5th edition of e4m PR & Corp Comm Women Achievers' Awards 2024.

Excerpts:

  1. How has been your journey in the communications industry, share your experiences and challenges as a woman leader.

My journey in communications has been anything but linear, and that’s what makes it special. I started Media Corridors at 25 with no legacy, no big backing, just a clear belief that storytelling can move businesses and people alike. The early years were full of learning, unlearning, and often proving myself in rooms where PR was still misunderstood. As a woman leader, the challenges weren’t always obvious, they were subtle. From managing perceptions to being taken seriously in boardrooms, it has been a mix of resilience, empathy, and consistently delivering value that’s shaped me and my agency over the years.

  1. What shifts and transformations have you observed for women in the workplace over the last few decades, and what do you think still needs improvement?

The most beautiful shift I’ve seen is that women today are owning their voice unapologetically. There’s more representation, more inclusion, and far more women in leadership roles than ever before. But what still needs work is beyond hiring, it’s about culture. True inclusion means creating environments where women can thrive without burning out, where leadership is flexible, empathetic, and built on trust rather than outdated expectations.

  1. What are the most important skills and qualities that women leaders need to succeed in the PR and comms industry?

Adaptability, emotional intelligence, and clarity in communication. PR is no longer just about media, it’s about managing narratives in an evolving world of digital, content, crisis, and culture. Women leaders in PR need to blend creativity with strategic thinking, intuition with data, and most importantly, stay authentic in their leadership style.

  1. What suggestions would you give to companies who want to attract and retain more women in leadership positions?

Start with listening. Policies matter -  but culture matters more. Companies need to move beyond checkboxes and truly invest in building workplaces where women feel seen, heard, and supported. Mentorship programs, flexibility, equal growth opportunities, and trust-driven leadership can go a long way in attracting and retaining women leaders.

  1. What advice would you offer to young women who are starting their careers in the communications industry?

Be curious, be fearless, and be patient with your growth. The communications industry rewards those who can listen deeply and tell stories authentically. Build relationships, learn across disciplines, and don’t shy away from claiming your space. And most importantly, know that your voice matters.

  1. Lastly, how do you feel as a winner of the 5th edition e4m PR & Corp Comm Women Achievers Awards 2024?

It’s humbling and deeply special. Awards like these are never just personal milestones, they’re a reminder of the power of dreams, belief, and consistency. This win belongs as much to my team at Media Corridors as it does to me, because every story we tell, every client we serve, and every conversation we create is a collective effort. I’m grateful, proud, and more committed than ever to keep building stories that matter.
