Share the story of how you started your agency, and how the role and perception of Indigenous PR agencies have changed since you first entered the industry.
Answer: My journey into entrepreneurship began in 2010, when Kamal and I co-founded Teamwork Communications Group with very limited resources but a clear vision—to create an agency that delivered meaningful, strategic, and impactful communication rooted in honesty and a deep understanding of the Indian market. At that time, Indian PR agencies were often viewed as second choices, with most companies gravitating toward multinational firms. I strongly believed this perception needed to change, because homegrown agencies carried a unique strength: cultural insight, agility, and the ability to tell stories that truly resonate with Indian audiences while aligning with global standards.
Over the years, we have seen that change take place. Today, indigenous agencies like ours are not just seen as cost-effective alternatives but as strategic advisors and trusted partners. Clients increasingly value the creativity, market understanding, and entrepreneurial spirit that Indian firms bring to the table. At Teamwork, we are proud to have been part of this transformation—working with both global brands and leading Indian companies and proving that local agencies can set benchmarks, not just follow them.
The industry has evolved tremendously, and so have we. From starting as a bootstrapped venture to becoming a trusted communications partner with expertise across healthcare, education, and government, our journey reflects the rising stature of Indian PR firms. And I believe the next chapter will see homegrown agencies not only competing globally but also shaping the future of communications in India and beyond.
How do global PR firms view India as a market? What sets your firm apart in terms of market insight, execution, and results?
Global PR firms see India as an exciting and fast-changing market with huge opportunities, but it can also be complicated because of its many cultures, languages, and changing media and consumer habits. Succeeding here is not about following a standard plan—it needs a real understanding of local markets, strong relationships, and the ability to quickly adjust strategies. In India, being authentic, culturally aware, and flexible is what makes a campaign successful.

What is the scope of the PR market in the SME and MSME sector?
The SME and MSME sector in India are a sleeping giant when it comes to PR. Traditionally, smaller businesses did not prioritize structured communication, but today, with digital democratizing reach and visibility, they understand that PR is not a luxury; it’s a necessity for growth, trust-building, and competitive advantage. At Teamwork Communications, we work extensively with SMEs and MSMEs, helping them build narratives that position them not just as local players but as brands with global ambition. There’s a huge untapped potential here, and as this sector matures, it will become one of the most dynamic spaces for PR agencies.
How is your agency training the next generation of communicators to support India's future?
For me, the future of PR is all about nurturing talent that is tech-savvy, strategic, and unafraid to think differently. We give young communicators the chance to take the lead in real-world situations—whether it’s managing clients, handling media, or leading events—while being supported and guided every step of the way by experienced mentors.
But it’s not just about the technical skills. Through in-house workshops, mentorship sessions, brainstorming labs, and hands-on projects, we help them build critical thinking, storytelling, crisis management, and relationship-building skills. As Maya Angelou wisely said, “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” We want the next generation to go beyond simply pitching stories—to build trust, create meaningful connections, and make a real impact in an increasingly connected India. We believe this mindset will be the greatest strength any PR professional can bring to the future of communications in India.
How do client expectations differ between Indian and international markets? Do they still rely on traditional methodologies or adapt to new technologies?
Indian clients today are ambitious and future-focused, but they also want clear value for their investment. They expect PR to deliver real, measurable results. International clients, particularly those new to India, often come with a deeper understanding of PR as a long-term strategy and are more open to experimenting with new ideas and technology. That gap, however, is narrowing rapidly. In 2025, technology is no longer optional. From digital tracking and AI-powered media insights to virtual events, tech is now an integral part of every campaign. We blend strong storytelling with smart technology, helping our clients not just keep up with trends, but set them, creating campaigns that are impactful, measurable, and culturally relevant.
What does the future of PR look like to you, and how is your firm preparing for the digital shift?
The future of PR is digital, data-driven, and deeply integrated with business strategy. It’s no longer just about media coverage; it’s about creating meaningful connections, building trust, and delivering measurable impact across multiple channels—from social media and influencers to virtual experiences and AI-powered insights.
