Maxus Global elevates Ajit Varghese

In a recent development, Maxus Global has decided to entrust additional responsibility on Managing Director Ajit Varghese. Varghese will now also run Maxus in the South Asian markets comprising Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, besides running Maxus and Motivator – the two GroupM brands in India.

It is understood that the announcement has been made keeping in mind Varghese’s contribution – which is seen as significant – in Maxus India’s growth.

“Maxus has grown very well in the last four years. And it’s a known fact that Maxus India is a big part of Maxus’ global network. So to me sharing our success and learnings to our neighbouring countries, is a natural extension. It just goes to show how successful Maxus India has been that it is now taking the responsibility in Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. We want to continue evolving our product in a similar way in the other countries,” said Varghese.

On how he looks forward to this additional responsibility, Varghese responded, “Handling Motivator and Maxus under the GroupM stable was one of the challenges and then this additional responsibility of handling a few more countries. It’s going to be an exciting journey from here.”

Vikram Sakhuja, CEO, South Asia, GroupM, said, “There are a couple of things to what Ajit has managed to do with Maxus. Maxus has always been perceived to be a challenger brand. The image and attitude of brand Maxus seems to be one of those young and nimble, challenger brands. For it to be No. 2 in size is a huge achievement and to a certain extent that’s a big tribute to Ajit. The agency is still very lean, hungry and innovative. Sometimes larger agencies have the potential baggage of trying to become heavy under size, but that’s not the case with Maxus.”

Rajesh Ramachandran, the Editor-in-chief of The Tribune, has quit, according to media reports. May 13 will be his last day with the Chandigarh-based publication.

Ramachandran took charge as The Tribune’s Editor-in-chief in May 2018. Before joining The Tribune, he was the Editor-in-chief of Outlook.

Ramachandran has over three decades of experience as a journalist in dailies, magazines and even television news channels. Known for his political analysis and commentary, Ramachandran has done big breaking stories such as the coffin scam and the BALCO valuation scandal. He has had stints with some of the biggest news organisations such as The Times of India, The Economic Times, Hindustan Times, The Hindu, The India Today Group and NDTV.

The chanegs are as following:

  • Arun Rawat takes over as the National Head for Republic Bharat
  • Satabadi Sharma Pathak takes over as the Head of Republic Kannada
